Week One Coming to an End...

Well, today marks the end of week one in Illinois. We have had some interesting weather. The first day we were here (last Friday) we got snow, it melted away by Sunday, at the beginning of the week it was close to 60*, and now it's back to the 30's in the morning. According to the weather app on my phone, we are supposed to be seeing some snow on Saturday! It's been crazy foggy lately. Our ponds in the back of our apartment are no longer frozen, the water is being rippled by the wind. It's quite lovely. I occasionally see the Canadian Goose and a large white bird sometimes flies by the window, but it goes past too quickly for me to get a good look at it.
On Wednesday I made homemade spaghetti, french bread, and brownies (those were from a box, so not technically homemade). Jonathan really enjoyed that meal. When I was making the bread I thought, "What a great opportunity to use my new Kitchen Aid!" So I mixed together all of the ingredients, grew my yeast, and threw everything into my Kitchen Aid. It started mixing everything together, but it didn't look quite right to me so I turned it off and started kneading it by hand. I should've just left the Kitchen Aid on because it was doing exactly what it was supposed to be doing...I hadn't ever used it before so I didn't know that it was actually behaving properly. Oh well, I manually kneaded the dough, but it turned out fabulously!
Last night, Jonathan wanted Teriyaki chicken to go with the recipe his mom gave us for stir fried broccoli. I didn't have a recipe for the chicken so I looked it up online. Let's just say this meal didn't turn out quite like I had hoped. It was tasty just not amazing like I wanted it to be. I used the rice cooker for the first time last night as well. That is a very nice invention. You can put the rice and water in the container, push a button, and never have to worry about it again until it's all done. The best part is that it doesn't take up any space on your stove so you can still cook everything else without being crowed. FABULOUS!
We got our first shipment of furniture yesterday too. Jonathan has been AMAZING, after he comes home from work he always asks me what task I would like for him to do. Last night's task was assembling our computer desk (which turned out to be quite a task, but it looks simply wonderful) and the two armless chairs that we got. We now have chairs so we don't have to eat standing up at the counter or sit on the floor when we are in the living room!!!!! You know, it is very easy to take things for granted when you have them every day of your life.
Jonathan has been enjoying his job, this week he helped rewire some kind of something. And yesterday he fixed a box of switches that would've cost the company $500 to replace. This box is kind of like a kill switch except there's more to it, if the equipment that is being tested starts freaking out, it will send a program to it that will actually override the test program causing it to run normally. I'm so very proud of my Husband, he's perfectly amazing in every way. One of his coworkers invited us to their church on Sunday, and then to his cell group's Super Bowl party (which is being held in our apartment complex)! I'm so excited to be able to have the opportunity to meet people!
Well, I suppose that is all for now. I have to get back to moving some boxes around. All our love from the Land of Lincoln or as I like to say the Land of Corn. S&J
